Pfizer•San Diego, CA
•$79,400 - $132,400•Onsite

About The Position

Pfizer is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology group within the Oncology Research Unit. The role focuses on antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) programs while also supporting other large-molecule and small-molecule programs. The Scientist executes high-quality in vivo efficacy, pharmacodynamic, tolerability, and mechanistic studies that support preclinical discovery and development. The position calls for technical capability in oncology animal models, careful attention to study details, and commitment to animal welfare, compliance, and scientific rigor. The Scientist contributes as a dependable technical and scientific team member while developing increasing independence in study execution, data interpretation, and cross-functional collaboration. The role is performed on premise and requires physical ability to perform laboratory and vivarium work. Some weekend work might be required. Relocation support may be available based on business needs and eligibility. Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States for any employer; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future. The annual base salary range is $79,400 to $132,400, with eligibility for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan and a bonus target of 7.5% of base salary. Pfizer offers benefits including a 401(k) plan with matching contributions and an additional retirement savings contribution, paid vacation, holidays and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage. Compensation and benefits vary by location; the stated U.S. salary range does not apply to Tampa, Florida, or locations outside the United States.

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, pharmacology, animal science, cancer biology, or a related discipline, with relevant research experience.
  • Hands-on experience conducting rodent in vivo studies in an academic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or contract research setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with tumor implantation, tumor measurement, animal monitoring, dosing by IV, PO, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal routes, sample collection, and study documentation.
  • Working knowledge of oncology pharmacology, including tumor growth inhibition, response assessment, dose scheduling, tolerability, and pharmacodynamic endpoint collection.
  • Ability to follow protocols precisely, recognize technical or animal welfare concerns, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage study activities across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed scientific environment.
  • Ability to apply technical expertise to moderately complex procedures and contribute to troubleshooting under guidance from senior scientists or in vivo study leads.
  • Accountability for assigned study activities and contribution to team goals, timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting ADC, targeted therapy, immuno-oncology, or combination oncology programs.
  • Familiarity with ADC-specific pharmacology considerations, including payload potency, linker stability, antigen expression, exposure-response relationships, and tolerability liabilities.
  • Experience with ex vivo tissue processing, biomarker sample collection, necropsy, flow cytometry sample preparation, or molecular endpoint workflows.
  • Experience executing ex vivo or in vitro methods, such as flow cytometry, cell line assays, and molecular biological or biochemical procedures.
  • Familiarity with electronic data systems such as Studylog or similar in vivo study management platforms.
  • AALAS certification or equivalent training in animal care and use.

Responsibilities

  • Execute in vivo oncology studies for discovery programs using appropriate models, including human cell line-derived, patient-derived xenograft, and syngeneic models.
  • Perform routine and advanced in vivo procedures, including tumor measurements, body weight monitoring, test article administration by IV, PO, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal routes, clinical observations, and sample collection.
  • Perform routine in vitro tissue culture procedures.
  • Support pharmacology studies assessing efficacy, tolerability, pharmacodynamic biomarkers, dose-response relationships, schedule optimization, and combination strategies.
  • Prepare, review, and follow study protocols, dosing schedules, randomization plans, and sample collection timelines in alignment with project goals and internal standards.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant study records using electronic data capture systems and approved documentation practices.
  • Coordinate with project line leads, vivarium operations, pathology, toxicology and translational scientists, bioanalytical, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic teams, and external partners to enable efficient study execution.
  • Assist with data quality review, graphical summaries, and interpretation of in vivo study results.
  • Conduct work in accordance with IACUC protocols, animal welfare expectations, biosafety requirements, and Pfizer internal policies.
