About The Position

Pace is hiring a full-time, onsite Scientist 1 for its environmental testing laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The role involves hands-on microbiological analysis of water and viable bacterial samples using established methods, reviewing and interpreting results, and maintaining accurate laboratory records. The scientist will work with instruments such as MALDI-ToF and clean, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment. Candidates will receive documented 3 to 6 months of on-the-job training for setting up and/or analyzing bacterial cultures.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or another science-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Provide documented 3 to 6 months of on-the-job training for setting up and/or analyzing bacterial cultures.
Ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment, including standing for extended periods, working around strong odors, and wearing required personal protective equipment.
Ability to use standard office and laboratory equipment and meet the described physical demands, including occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds and frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Experience in basic analysis of bacterial cultures in an environmental or clinical laboratory.
Knowledge of Legionella species or fungal analysis.

Responsibilities
