About The Position

This is a full-time, onsite, Scientist 1 - Asbestos Analyst position located in Oklahoma City, OK, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The salary for this position reflects a variety of factors. Compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s geographic location, relevant experience, education, skills, and alignment with internal equity. Market conditions, budgetary considerations, and organizational compensation guidelines may also influence the final offer. In this role, you’ll conduct hands-on analysis within our laboratories, helping ensure the integrity and quality of environmental data that impacts communities and ecosystems. The Asbestos Analyst will perform routine analysis of environmental samples for asbestos using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM). This role supports Pace’s asbestos analytical operations by preparing, analyzing, and reporting sample results in accordance with established methods and quality standards. The position will also receive additional training in Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) for airborne fiber analysis and may be cross trained in environmental mold microscopy.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related science field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment, including standing for extended periods, working around strong odors, and wearing required PPE (lab coat, safety glasses, gloves—all provided by Pace®).
Mobility to work in a lab and office setting, use standard office and lab equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Responsibilities

Perform and support the analysis of environmental samples using established microscopy methods, including Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) for bulk asbestos and Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) for airborne fiber analysis.
Prepare slides, conduct fiber identification, and interpret optical characteristics in accordance with approved analytical methods and quality protocols.
Clean, maintain, and calibrate microscopes and related laboratory equipment as needed to ensure optimal performance and data reliability.
Accurately document all procedures, observations, and analytical results to maintain complete, organized, and high‑quality laboratory records.
Follow all safety procedures, quality control requirements, and standard operating procedures to support analytical results.
