About The Position

CancerCare Manitoba is a provincial agency that provides clinical and academic services and leadership for cancer control and the treatment of blood disorders. This position is for a Scientific Research Officer within the Paul Albrechtsen Research Institute. The role involves a full range of grant support duties, including identifying external grants, budgeting, monitoring, contract reviews, and reporting. It also includes project coordination, literature reviews, analysis of research programs, and preparation of materials for knowledge dissemination. The Research Officer will coordinate with researchers to develop research operations plans, external grant applications, and CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (CCMF) grant applications. They will support the Manager Research Development and Industry Relations in overseeing and monitoring research development to facilitate research and collaborations. The position requires resourcefulness, independence, and the ability to work within an integrated research program and team-oriented environment, with adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines. The Research Officer is an integral member of the Research Support Office, ensuring research projects align with CCMB's research priorities and assisting with project initiation, monitoring, and timely closure.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary degree in a health or science-related discipline from an accredited educational institution.
  • 5 years of experience working in a research/medical laboratory or other research environment.
  • 5 years of experience working collaboratively within a team environment with proven success of building collaborative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, preferably in a research, laboratory, or clinical environment.
  • 2 years of experience working in clinical trials projects/units.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Understanding of the research process, strong research and numeric skills, an interest in policy process and research contracts, and a determination to explore issues thoroughly.
  • Ability to work independently and within multiple teams.
  • Understanding of necessary legal and regulatory documents related to research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare various documents/reports and deliver presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills.
  • Excellent risk mitigation and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and formulate recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Post Graduate (Master’s) degree preferred.
  • Doctorate level degree in a health- or science-related discipline.
  • Experience developing and managing research projects in a healthcare facility.
  • Ability to speak French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of grant support duties, including identifying external grants, budgeting, monitoring, contract reviews, and reporting.
