About The Position

We are ViiV Healthcare: the only global pharmaceutical company 100% dedicated to preventing, treating and curing HIV. The Discovery Biology team in Branford, CT, conducts cutting-edge laboratory research into the identification of new drug targets, elucidation of novel mechanisms of action, and innovation across diverse drug modalities (small molecules, biologics, antibody-drug conjugates, degraders, oligos, etc.), all with the goal of ending the HIV epidemic. We collaborate with chemists, toxicologists, DMPK scientists, structural and computational biologists, immunologists, clinicians and many others locally and globally to deliver innovative medicines for clinical trials. We are seeking a Scientific Leader to apply their diverse and deep understanding of virology, cell and molecular biology, protein biochemistry and structural biology to the independent design and conduct of cell-based and biochemical/biophysical experiments in support of novel drug discovery. Interacting daily with a team of 15+ biologists and virologists, the successful candidate will develop, troubleshoot, and implement novel assays to screen compounds and test new concepts related to HIV prevention, treatment, and cure, taking full advantage of our state-of-the-art laboratory facility and instrumentation. This role will be based out of Branford, CT & eligible for a domestic relocation package.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry
  • 10+ years of experience OR 7+ years with a PhD in virology OR cell biology OR immunology
  • Experience working with cross functional teams in global or geographically diverse environments, and experience performing matrix and project management tasks
  • Experience developing and implementing cell-based assays, including viral infection assays, cytotoxicity assays, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy/high content imaging, or similar systems
  • Experience with immunoassay and protein-protein/protein-small molecule interaction analysis (TR-FRET, ELISA, SPR, Western blotting) and/or protein characterization via mass spectroscopy
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning, plasmid design and purification, DNA sequence analysis, transfection and expression analysis
  • Experience creating and delivering written and verbal communications for organizational or technical documentation purposes
  • Experience documenting experimental methods and results in electronic laboratory notebooks

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Experience in developing and implementing low to medium throughput drug discovery assay workflows
  • Experience designing and/or working with biologics, including multi-specific antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates
  • Experience working with/managing external partners, including contract research organizations (CROs)
  • Contributions to regulatory submissions, patents and preparation of technical reports
  • Demonstrated track record of implementing process improvements or digital solutions that enhance quality, efficiency, or operational performance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
