About The Position

Axle is seeking a Part-Time Scientific Editor to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the Rockville, MD.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in a related discipline and a minimum of eleven years of related experience are required (three years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor's degree may substitute for the Master's degree).
  • Software MS Office Suite Skills
  • Proficiency in proofreading and editing
  • Experience organizing and gathering information related to the development of reports, briefings, and media outreach
  • Expertise with various database and computer programming languages
  • Expertise with various operating systems

Responsibilities

  • Independently provides support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains intranet and internet web sites, using database-driven approaches to manage web content, versions, and newsletters.
  • Redesigns sites as needed to maximize clarity and usability.
  • Creates illustrations, graphics, and charts for web resources, PowerPoint slides, and newsletters.
  • Makes expert recommendations to the technical lead on web design and technical issues.
  • Works as part of a team to write, edit, and prepare reports and initiatives on infectious diseases and cross-cutting topics such as biodefense and antimicrobial resistance.
  • Designs and develops intranet and internet web sites as part of the Web Development Team.
  • Creates and maintains web sites, managing content and design.
  • Uses database-driven approaches to manage web content (versions) and newsletters.
  • Redesigns sites as necessary to maximize clarity and ease of use, and forecast to meet new needs.
  • Creates illustrations, graphics, and charts for web resources, PowerPoint slides, and newsletters.
  • Makes expert recommendations to the technical lead on web design, graphics, and technical issues.
  • Develops and reviews reports and initiatives by working as part of a team to write, edit, and prepare documents on infectious diseases, such as influenza and malaria, as well as important cross-cutting topics for the division, such as biodefense and antimicrobial resistance.
