About The Position

The Science Teacher at Camden County Early College High School is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their educational and social development. This role requires the teacher to manage instructional time effectively, maintain student engagement, and foster a positive learning environment. The position involves managing student behavior, presenting lessons clearly, monitoring student performance, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating instruction aligned with school and system-wide goals. Additionally, the teacher will interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community, and perform assigned non-instructional duties while adhering to established policies and pursuing professional development.

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible to hold a NC Teaching License in Science (Grades 9-12).
  • Possess a degree in education or a related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments.
  • Manage instructional time, ensuring materials and equipment are ready and students are engaged quickly.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing clear rules and procedures, monitoring students, and addressing inappropriate behavior promptly.
  • Present lessons effectively, starting with reviews, introducing objectives, speaking fluently, using understandable language, providing examples, asking appropriate questions, maintaining a brisk pace, and making smooth transitions.
  • Monitor student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating during class work, and using various methods to check progress.
  • Provide instructional feedback on in-class and out-of-class work to encourage student growth and affirm correct responses.
  • Facilitate instruction by having a plan compatible with school and system goals, using diagnostic information, maintaining accurate records, aligning objectives with strategies and assessments, and utilizing resources.
  • Interact effectively and equitably with students, co-workers, parents, and the community.
  • Carry out non-instructional duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrate growth.
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants (may coordinate).
