About The Position

The Middle School Science teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, standards-aligned science instruction using the OpenSciEd curriculum. This curriculum is phenomenon-based, with the teacher serving as the facilitator as students explore real-world problems through an inquiry-based approach. This curriculum promotes critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, problem-solving, and student engagement. The teacher creates a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment aligned with Massachusetts State Standards, supporting the diverse learning needs of all students while fostering positive relationships and high expectations. The Middle School Science Teacher collaborates with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure all students have equitable access to grade-level content and opportunities for academic growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid Massachusetts 5-8 teacher license in Science
  • Experience supporting students through student-centered lessons, with a focus on inquiry and phenomena-based learning
  • Knowledge of the OpenSciEd curriculum and instructional practices
  • Strong knowledge of the MA state standards and effective teaching and learning practices that promote success for all learners
  • Ability to implement tasks that promote reasoning and problem-solving
  • Ability to pose purposeful questions
  • Ability to support productive struggle in learning
  • Ability to elicit and use evidence of student thinking
  • Ability to use data to inform instruction and intervention
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, support staff, and science content specialists
  • Experience working with special education students and English Language Learners
