About The Position

FSRI is seeking a Science Teacher for its non-public, special education certified school that serves girls aged 13-28 with complex educational, behavioral, and therapeutic needs. The school provides a highly structured, trauma-informed environment focused on healing, growth, and individualized support. The position involves delivering engaging scientific instruction (chemistry, biology, geology, etc.) to high school students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting. The teacher will also develop and monitor student Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and collaborate with the management team to ensure safety, stability, and professional guidance for students placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. This is a full-time, year-round position working 32 hours per week.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Teaching or Education
RI certification as Teacher of regular or special education
Knowledge base around subject matter i.e Art, Phys Ed, Science, Math, English, History
Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
Excellent multitasking and communication skills a must
Ability to work independently and part of a team
Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
Ability to communicate effectively
Travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
Ability to lift up to 20lbs

Spanish Speaking preferred and is compensated
Bilingual/ASL skills are compensated by an additional 6%, above base pay.
Multilingual skills are compensated by an additional 8%, above base pay.
Candidates with a master’s degree will receive an additional $3,000.
Additional compensation is available for educators certified and able to teach in multiple subject areas

Responsibilities

Delivering engaging scientific instruction focused on chemistry, biology, geology etc. to high school students with significant emotional/behavioral behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting.
Develop and monitor student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards.
Works collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability and professional guidance to residents in our care that have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed.
Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
