About The Position

Great Lakes Academy is hiring a Full Time Science Teacher for the 26/27 school year. The academy is a K-8th grade public charter school located in Pontiac, serving the community for over 20 years. Great Lakes Academy is dedicated to educating children in a safe and nurturing environment, committed to empowering students to take responsibility for their academic success. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Science Teacher with a strong background in scientific disciplines, a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment, and the ability to inspire students' interest in science. The role involves delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and contributing to the school community's academic success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with scientific advancements and teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare students for scientific inquiry and experimentation, ensuring safety protocols are followed in laboratory settings.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to enhance student engagement and understanding of scientific concepts.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
  • Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, hands-on experiments, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Supervise multiple students at once.
  • Establish routines and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Create and implement instructional plans.
  • Participate in continuous professional development.
  • Perform effective oral and written communication.
  • Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Stand and walk frequently.
  • Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat.
  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year.
  • Withstand a moderate noise level.
  • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary.
  • Assist/lift students, as necessary.
