About The Position

RTHS seeks Science teachers who are passionate about driving innovative Science instruction for our students. RTHS Science teachers will have an unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels and a strong commitment to partnering with our teachers to drive incredible outcomes for our students, realizing the potential of an innovative STEM education model. The goal of a Science teaching role is to support effective Science instruction in their respective classrooms and in developing a collaborative department, successful for all students. Our Science teachers work relentlessly with their teammates to ensure that all of their students not only are able to master the discipline-specific topics set forth in the North Carolina Science standards (NSCOS) but realize life-long success in STEM fields. RTHS sees success in Science coursework as the gateway to STEM fields in both college and career. This goal is only possible through the support of excellent instruction with a collaborative instructional team deploying next generation instructional and data analysis techniques. Objective success in this role should see the maximum number of students possible demonstrating proficiency on end of year state tests, college readiness exams, growth assessments, and related science assessments. As a Science teacher, you are helping Lead the Future of STEM Education. We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable educator to teach Physics and Earth Science and inspire students to explore the natural world through scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world application. The ideal candidate will foster a rigorous, engaging classroom environment aligned with NC State standards while supporting diverse learners in developing environmental literacy and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field
Valid state teaching certification in Science (or eligibility to obtain certification)
Strong content knowledge in topics such as ecosystems, biodiversity, climate change, energy resources, and human impact on the environment
Strong content knowledge in topics such as matter, motion, energy, and forces
Experience with laboratory instruction and safety protocols
Ability to integrate technology and data analysis tools into instruction
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
A deep knowledge of Science curriculum and assessment
Knowledge of the NCEES and Beginning Teacher Support Program for North Carolina
Belief in the mission of Research Triangle High School
Investment in innovative teaching techniques, including personalized learning
Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player

Responsibilities

Lead excellent Science instruction in classrooms that drives student mastery of Science topics.
Utilize the school’s instructional model including efficient use of technology, didactic instruction, laboratory studies, collaborative learning, project learning, and at-home learning.
Develop a strong learning community within the classroom and with families by establishing oneself as the leader of the classroom.
Support the school in its regular parent engagement activities, helping parents understand their student’s academic achievement, possibilities for at-home learning, and appropriate social emotional development.
Work with the academic team to implement a rigorous curriculum through unit plans and lessons that meet the needs of all students with clear, standard aligned objectives and appropriate assessments to gauge student comprehension.
Receive bi-weekly feedback through coaching meetings meant to help internalize content, practice teaching moves, grow classroom management, and other teaching techniques to improve practice.
Participate in a data-driven culture among fellow teachers, grade-level Science teammates, and the Science department as a whole to analyze and respond to student achievement data.
Regularly use assessments from the curriculum, provided by the academic team, or made by oneself.
Participate in a collaborative learning environment with other Science team members to co–plan, examine grade-level articulation, conduct student work analysis, enable peer feedback, and customize just-in-time Professional Development.
Participate in schoolwide disciplinary literacy and writing techniques shared from ELA coursework and with teachers in other subject areas.
Support the school’s strategic initiatives whether they apply to the grade-level, department, or whole-school focus.
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction for Physics and Earth and Environmental Science.
Design and implement laboratory investigations, field experiences, and project-based learning opportunities.
Incorporate data analysis, scientific research, and environmental case studies into instruction.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Monitor and assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress with students and families.
Collaborate with science department colleagues and participate in professional learning communities (PLCs).
Stay current with developments in physics, environmental science and best instructional practices.
Promote environmental stewardship and awareness within the school community.
