About The Position

Under the direction of the junior/senior high school principal, the teacher would be working with students at the secondary level to achieve excellence in middle school science with a strong emphasis on disciplinary foundations and skills prior to their high school science courses.

Requirements

  • Minimum of BS/BA degree in Secondary Education
  • Possess or be eligible for a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an Integrated Science (DI) or Science (DX) endorsement.
  • Highly Qualified by NCLB Standards
  • Able to assess and document student progress
  • Professional in personal conduct and actions
  • Strong organizational, classroom management, collaboration and communication skills
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of technology
  • Active and continuous learner in the area of secondary education, research-based instructional strategies, and supporting the “whole child” at the secondary-level

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in working with secondary students, specifically middle school-aged.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with Professional Learning Communities and leveraging classroom-level data to shape targeted instruction
  • Experience with piloting new curricular resources and developing coherent, standard-aligned curriculum mapping
  • Ability to foster a learning environment prioritizing collaboration, critical thinking, and communication
  • Experience using technology as an instructional tool and for monitoring student progress
  • Knowledge in the use and application of G Suite and other Internet-based applications
  • Understanding, experience with, and/or willingness to adhere to Standards Based Grading (SBG) and assessing
  • Understanding of and experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and positive acknowledgements
  • Take a leadership role within the staff to demonstrate effective pedagogical and curricular approaches applicable to colleagues across other departments and grade levels.
  • Special consideration given to holders of multiple certifications outside of the science content endorsement(s)

  • Researches and attends trainings that further one's professional career and student success
  • Initiates new programs that support the district’s vision for high-quality teaching and learning
  • Ensures students demonstrate proficiency on explicit standards
  • Consistently implements agreed-upon programs consistent with essential job functions
  • Collects and analyzes data to evaluate and improve teaching practice
  • Creates, establishes, and maintains communication system between classroom and students’ parents/guardians
  • Builds positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents/guardians, and school community
