Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Biology license at the appropriate level
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with and/or teaching high school students; an understanding of the needs of students at this age
  • Collaborative work ethic
  • Training/experience in the use of instructional technology
  • Commitment to inclusive pedagogy

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach multiple sections of high school school Biology
  • Work collaboratively with the high school department chair, and members of the high school science department to support student learning and growth
  • Develops and administers Biology and/or elective science curriculum to grade 9 students consistent with state standards, school district goals, and learning objectives
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of Science Practices and Skills with a focus on Biology content, methods, and principles of effective high school instruction
  • Plan and execute appropriate instructional and learning strategies
  • Use student level data to inform instruction and plan effective lessons/interventions for students
  • Promotes the learning and growth of all students through instructional practices that establish high expectations, create a safe and effective classroom environment, and demonstrate cultural proficiency
  • Fosters the learning and growth of all students through effective partnerships with families and caregivers
  • Collaborates effectively with specialists, instructional coaches, administrators and parents to foster positive social, emotional and academic development for our students
  • Ensures, through effective collaboration with colleagues (chiefly ESL and Special Education liaisons), that identified strategies that promote the success of all students in the classroom are in place
  • Works under the general supervision of the building Principal and Science Department Chair, manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement
  • Provides structure in the classroom by building and maintaining a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed

Benefits

  • Salary is determined by education and experience, ranging from Bachelor’s (Step 1) $63,217 to Doctorate (Step 14) $133,922 (This range is based on a 1.0 FTE).
