Science Reporter, NGN Northeastern Global News (NGN), Northeastern University’s award-winning, fast-paced, daily news organization is looking for a talented Science Reporter to be based on Northeastern’s Boston campus. The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist and versatile storyteller who can translate complex, technical science, and research topics into engaging and deeply reported articles that are easily understandable to a wide audience. The Science Reporter must have several years of experience working for daily commercial news organizations. The experience should include analyzing complicated academic studies and data, understanding scientific methodology, adherence to factchecking, and the ability to file daily stories under tight deadlines. NGN showcases news about innovation across Northeastern’s academic and research enterprise, including but not limited to stories about discoveries, innovations across multiple areas, such as artificial intelligence, health, engineering, computer science, data science, and the humanities, to name a few. NGN covers newsworthy stories across Northeastern’s global system of campuses in the US, UK, and Canada. Stories focus on examples of leadership and innovation across the university in areas including experiential learning programs, research, teaching, and campus life inside labs, classrooms, and beyond. NGN also provides commentary and analysis by faculty experts on timely topics that captivate national and global conversations. The Science Reporter must deliver accurate, timely, and compelling journalism across multiple platforms with a particular focus on newsworthy stories from the university's global research enterprise. We expect curiosity, accountability, creativity, and a commitment to accuracy and speed. This role is perfect for a journalist who is well-versed in topics related to science and technology, including AI. The person in this role thrives in a fast-paced environment, has great news judgment, and understands how to reach readers across digital platforms. NGN is part of Northeastern’s Communications team in External Affairs. Reporting to the Executive Editor of NGN, the Science Reporter is part of a team of journalists who work closely with media relations, social media and multimedia teams within Communications. It is a highly data-informed organization with ambitious goals and impeccable standards. The position is based on the Boston campus and is fully on site, five days a week. Remote or hybrid work are not an option. As is the case for every member of the Communications team, after-hours work, including weekends and holidays, is routinely required.
