About The Position

Under the direction of the Coordinator of the Qatqi..iaġvik Learning Center (QLC), the teacher is responsible for implementing research-based instructional strategies to direct the learning process and achievement of assigned students. This involves developing, nurturing, and sustaining a school and classroom culture conducive to student learning. All instruction provided will be individualized, meaning that differences in learning style, rate, maturation, and achievement will form the basis for instructional decision-making. Teachers are expected to vary materials, rate of instruction, and methodology, with modifications based on frequent assessment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education required.
  • Alaska Teacher Certificate or Type M Certificate required or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to travel within and outside NSBSD.
  • Willing and able to fly in small and large commuter planes.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • CTE experience preferred.
  • Knowledge & experience with ACE, PBIS, and Restorative Circles preferred.
  • Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment, with training provided for subjects outside of preparation area.
  • Employ appropriate methods of assessment to identify student proficiency levels and plan short and long-range programs to accommodate identified needs.
  • Use student achievement data (formative and summative) to determine the effectiveness of instructional strategies.
  • Strive for harmonious and cooperative interpersonal relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members.
  • Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
  • Develop an awareness of local culture and provide bicultural or multicultural instruction.
  • Abide by the code of ethics and professional teaching standards.
  • Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator of QLC and maintain digital copies.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Grade Minimum: $2,500 - 3 weeks per quarter
