About The Position

The Science Department seeks a passionate and energetic teacher to fill a full-time, one-year term teaching position beginning the 2026-2027 academic year. Candidates should be interested in being part of a collaborative group of teachers and working with highly motivated high school students in a diverse, mostly residential community. Temporary housing with associated residential duties may be available.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting for a minimum of 2 years (preferred, equivalent experience may be considered).
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • Willingness to enforce all school policies and rules governing student behavior.
  • Criminal and driving background check.
  • CV or resume.
  • Cover letter addressing teaching experience, institutional needs, and resonance with the Harkness teaching style, mission, and values.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree in physics or related field.
  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting for a minimum of 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Teach physics.
  • Shape courses in robotics, electronics, modern physics, or thermodynamics.
  • Teach advanced courses, in addition to introductory courses.
  • Teach four classes per trimester, all student-centered discussions around a Harkness table.
  • Engage in daily preparation for classes.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as coaching, advising student clubs, and/or committee work.
  • Reside in campus housing and cultivate the school's community-centered student dormitory life.
  • Be responsible for dormitory duty, including one weekend per month and one to two nights per week.
  • Serve as a mentor to student advisees and act as a liaison between advisees' families/guardians and the Academy.
  • Demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
