About The Position

The School Support Specialist serves as a key member of the Initial Point High School administrative team, supporting student engagement, attendance intervention, family communication, and daily school operations. Working closely with the Principal, the School Support Specialist builds meaningful relationships with students, removes barriers to graduation, assists with school-wide systems and initiatives, and provides operational support that contributes to a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment. Campus safety and security responsibilities remain an important component of the role but are balanced with proactive student mentoring, attendance support, and administrative assistance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive, professional relationships while maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, data entry, and document management.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive situations professionally.
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution-oriented when responding to student needs, behavioral concerns, and emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with adolescents, families, schools, customer service, community organizations, coaching, mentoring, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with student information systems such as PowerSchool is preferred.
  • Experience with restorative practices, youth mentoring, behavior support, or alternative education is preferred but not required.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with students that promote engagement, accountability, and progress toward graduation.
  • Serve as a trusted adult mentor and support students in overcoming academic, attendance, behavioral, and personal barriers to success.
  • Conduct student check-ins and utilize restorative practices to support conflict resolution and positive student behavior.
  • Monitor attendance data and partner with the Principal to implement attendance interventions and student re-engagement strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families regarding attendance, behavior, academic progress, and available supports.
  • Assist the Principal with student enrollment, intake interviews, orientation activities, and onboarding processes.
  • Support student records, Chromebook/device tracking, data entry, and other operational tasks as assigned.
  • Prepare attendance reports, intervention lists, and other documents that support school operations.
  • Conduct routine campus supervision and perimeter checks to help maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor security systems and report safety concerns to administration.
  • Assist administrators, the School Resource Officer (SRO), and emergency personnel in responding to safety incidents, medical situations, and emergencies.
  • Serve as a member of the school's leadership support team by assisting with projects, initiatives, and operational needs as directed by the Principal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of student success and school operations.
