About The Position

This position supports general education and special education teachers by providing instructional support to individual or small groups of Special Education pupils with a variety of disabilities in a classroom or resource environment. The paraprofessional will collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other team members to ensure students receive educational benefits.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Paraprofessional Assessment completed successfully (if applicable)
  • New employee must complete an FBI fingerprint background check with IdentoGO if a background check is not currently on file with the Texas Department of Public Safety before first day of employment

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills.
  • Supports students in general education and pull-out rooms.
  • Assists in data collection related to student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional performance.
  • Assists the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on student needs.
  • Distributes and collects work, papers, and other instructional materials.
  • Assists with student supervision during drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods, and field trips.
  • Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
  • Participates in assigned in-service training programs.
  • Alerts teachers to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Serves as a source of information and assists substitute teachers.
  • May assist staff and students in using educational computer programs and technology.
  • Assists the teacher in maintaining accurate records.
  • Administers and assists in the evaluation of daily student assignments.
  • Assists in organizing the learning environment, preparing and setting up instructional materials and equipment.
  • Accompanies or assists students to and from their mode of transportation.
  • Assists students with personal hygiene functions, including toileting, diapering, eating, dressing, and other self-help skills.
  • Acts as a mandated reporter to ensure student safety.
  • Monitors student schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Attends problem-solving/IEP meetings and provides input on student progress.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
