About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and experienced in-person School Social Worker to join our team on a contract basis in Calvert County. As a School Social Worker, you will be a vital link between the school, home, and community to support students' academic and social success. You will provide direct services, as well as consultation, to help students and families navigate challenges and access resources. This role is critical in developing a healthy school climate and providing interventions that address barriers to learning.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
  • Maryland School Social Work Certificate issued by MSDE (or eligibility for certification)
  • Valid Maryland licensure as one of the following is required: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C)
  • Strong assessment, counseling, and case management skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to cultural competence and serving a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a caseload effectively, and adapt to the changing needs of a school environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working as a Social Worker in a school or pediatric setting.
  • Knowledge of Maryland COMAR regulations and federal laws (IDEA, Section 504) governing special education.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide individual and group counseling to students.
  • Develop and implement intervention strategies to address academic and behavioral concerns.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create supportive learning plans.
  • Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) and 504 Plan meetings, providing clinical insight and recommendations.
  • Provide crisis intervention services and risk assessments.
  • Connect students and families with community resources and social services.
  • Advocate for students' needs and promote a school culture of equity and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Address issues such as truancy, bullying, mental health, and substance abuse through school-wide initiatives and targeted support.
