About The Position

The basic function of the School Social Worker is to help students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student’s individual potential. District 155 expects candidates to be child/school/community-centered professionals with a high degree of energy, flexibility, and initiative. Expectations are that School Social Workers are clear verbal and written communicators, have well-developed interpersonal skills, are reflective in practice, and seek continuous self-improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team by conducting school social work components as part of the evaluation process.
  • Serves as a consultant to school personnel for student educational and/or behavioral interventions in order to assist in the development of a constructive learning environment so that optimum learning may occur.
  • Provide direct services and/or interventions as designated on the student’s IEP.
  • Works cooperatively with administrators and staff, parents, students and community agencies.
  • Promoting regular school attendance.
  • Providing individual counseling and facilitating group sessions.
  • Promoting safe, caring, and drug-free schools.
  • Working with students on self-esteem and anger management.
  • Providing crisis intervention services.
  • Serving as liaison between school/family/community.
  • Referring students and parents to appropriate community services.
  • Assisting families with the interpretation of school policies and procedures.
  • Understand and practice in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, statutes, and policies that relate to students and families.
  • Maintain materials and accurate case records and documentation.
  • Other duties assigned by school administration.
