About The Position

School Psychologist position supporting student mental health, conducting evaluations, and collaborating with educators and families to promote academic and behavioral success. This role is within the Madison County School System District and is a full-time position starting July 2026. Ampersand Therapy is hiring a full-time School Psychologist for a school setting in Huntsville, AL. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in student success by leading evaluations, supporting student wellness, and driving collaborative, student-centered solutions. This is a great fit for both experienced school-based psychologists and those transitioning into schools.

Requirements

  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  • Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology

Nice To Haves

  • National Certification in School Psychology (NCSP) preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational assessments to evaluate students' cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral functioning.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive reports of each student assessed; interpret assessment findings for staff, parents, and other authorized persons as necessary; make educational recommendations.
  • Provide short-term counseling to students dealing with mental health, behavioral, or emotional concerns.
  • Develop and lead group counseling sessions on topics such as coping strategies, peer relationships, and anxiety management.
  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school professionals to support students' academic and behavioral success.
  • Offer consultation to school staff on strategies for behavior management, differentiated instruction, and creating inclusive classroom environments.
  • Provide immediate psychological support during crises and assist in the development of crisis intervention plans.
  • Participate in school-wide safety initiatives and support the creation of positive behavioral interventions.
  • Provide training for teachers and staff on topics such as mental health awareness, student support strategies, and recognizing signs of distress or trauma.
  • Collaborate in the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework by providing data-driven insights, monitoring student progress, and offering targeted interventions to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
