About The Position

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of State Training School (STS) is seeking a School Office Professional to join our team! The School Office Professional will work with the Education, Mental Health, and Social Work departments to provide vital support to our work with students. This is a close-knit environment with a strong culture. There are no extra duties beyond the 7:00am – 3:30pm schedule. There is approximately 1 month of orientation to become familiar with the school and facility. School Office Professionals at STS are an irreplaceable piece in the successful development of young men within the facility. STS provides an environment rich in educational challenges that will allow you to practice your craft in a meaningful manner. The programs available for residents include: General education studies, Special education programs, Title I High School Equivalency Diploma (formerly GED), Competency-based Vocational programs, and Counseling. If you are proficient in: Technology Skills, Interpersonal Skills, and Multi-taking - a career at STS is definitely something to consider! Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position. STS offers a holistic social, behavioral, psychiatric, academic, and vocational program that utilizes evidence-based practices to provide a secure setting, rooted in treatment, for males ages 12 to 18 years old who have been adjudicated delinquent. STS provides individualized treatment plans and offers comprehensive education with the goal of successfully transitioning young men back into the community. Requirements

  • Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification: One year of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
  • A total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.
  • Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to type at least 40 WPM net as demonstrated by the completion of a typing examination.
