About The Position

The purpose of the School Nutrition Manager Trainee Program is to provide training through both hands-on experience and classroom instruction to prepare trainees for a potential management position in Hamilton County School Nutrition. The intent is to teach the standards of quantity school food production and service in accordance with USDA, State of Tennessee, and local program guidelines. After selection, the trainee will enter the first phase of the 10-11 week training program onsite (the location is at the discretion of HCS) from March 15 through May 28, 2021, with the understanding that if the trainee successfully completes the first phase, the trainee will attend the second phase of classroom training from June 5 through July 2, 2021. External applicants may begin prior to March 15 if desired.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or GED required
  • Internal Applicants: a minimum of 1 year in a School Nutrition food service operation with 1-month main meat cook and cashiering experience, with a positive reference by the applicant's Cafeteria Manager
  • External Applicants: a minimum of 1 year in food service management, with positive references
  • A passing score on a basic math and reading comprehension test required
