About The Position

This position assists in managing and coordinating the day-to-day school nutrition operations of an assigned school site. The role ensures compliance with District, State, and federal requirements and laws regarding nutrition, sanitation, safety, and record-keeping. Key responsibilities include selecting, assigning, scheduling, supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned school nutrition personnel. The assistant manager must also be prepared to assume the full responsibilities of the manager in their absence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, high school certificate of completion, G.E.D. Certificate, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law
  • Three years experience in school nutrition operations.
  • Must complete training course for certification of beginning school nutrition personnel as prescribed in 702 KAR 6:045.
  • Must obtain SNA certification
  • Meet the health requirements of the State and the Henry County Board of Education.
  • Be compliant with all HACCP regulations (see district HACCP plan).
  • Knowledge of meal production planning and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of applicable District, federal and State laws, rules and regulations related to school nutrition.
  • Knowledge of quantity food preparation and food merchandising.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, sanitation and operation regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of use and care of institutional equipment and utensils.
  • Knowledge of procedures used in ordering, receiving, storing and inventorying food and supplies.
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations pertaining to food establishments, including sanitation and maintenance regulations.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of inventory methods and practices.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate the day-to-day school nutrition operation at an assigned school site.

  • Required to wear tops provided by the program and either white, blue, black, or khaki slacks, walking shorts, or skirts.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, coordinates, and oversees the day-to-day school nutrition operations at an assigned school nutrition site; analyzes effectiveness, assures compliance with District, State and federal laws, regulations and safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Prepares menus, assuring compliance with regulations and requirements; estimates and orders amount of food and supplies needed; monitors and controls expenditures; maintains assigned budget.
  • Selects school nutrition employees; directs, assigns, schedules and evaluates school nutrition personnel; conducts training sessions for new employees.
  • Inspects lunchroom and kitchen area daily to assure compliance with health, safety and sanitation requirements and regulations.
  • Plans work schedules and coordinates daily work for efficient use of labor; receives calls from employees and calls substitutes as necessary.
  • Trains and assists employees in the proper handling of foods, correct use and care of equipment and in maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety.
  • Maintains, prepares and reviews a variety of menu production records, inventories, logs and reports; accumulates data and inputs information into a computer as appropriate and files documents as necessary.
  • Supervises and participates in food preparation and distribution to District students and staff; plans for catered events such as meetings, activities and parties; plans and coordinates school nutrition operations with school activities to improve school and community relations and increase student participation.
  • Communicates with students, staff, faculty, and outside organizations to exchange information, receives suggestions, and resolves issues related to school nutrition.
  • Participates in, schedules and attends in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Becomes familiar with all aspects of the program in order to assume responsibilities of the manager in her absence.
  • Develops and controls a system that will allow the manager to determine the items and amounts of purchased food in inventory.
  • Accepts and checks all deliveries made to the cafeteria.
  • Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
  • Attends monthly meetings for School Nutrition Cafeteria Managers and aids in menu planning.
  • Verifies receipt of food and supplies; notes inaccuracies on invoices; signs all invoices.
  • Maintains required continuing education hours for SNA certification.
  • Maintains an accurate time sheet; submits all timesheets for employees at location to the Director of School Nutrition twice monthly.
  • Becomes familiar with and develops practices that will result in successful completion of food service program goals as defined by the School Nutrition Comprehensive Study Committee and approved by the Board of Education.
  • Serves as cashier while lunch and breakfast is being served.
  • Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Director of School Nutrition or the Superintendent.
