About The Position

This is a one-year, full-time position for a School Nurse at North Haven Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. The nurse will manage a busy health office, providing healthcare, screenings, and medication administration. Responsibilities include reviewing sports registrations, advising during PPT, 504, and parent meetings, and collaborating with administration and the Quinnipiack Valley Health District during illness outbreaks. The role requires planning and providing safe, effective, and financially responsible nursing services, establishing school health plans, maintaining student health records, and integrating evidence-based practice. The nurse will also participate in the school's interdisciplinary team, work with parents, provide health education, and delegate tasks appropriately.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed in the state of Connecticut with the equivalent of at least one year working full time as a registered nurse.
  • CPR/AED certification is required.
  • Academic preparation must be from an accredited institution of higher learning with course credits as defined in the Connecticut Department of Public Health, Public Health Code (Section 10-212-3).
  • Must be able to respond quickly and/or perform CPR in emergency situations.
  • Should be comfortable and familiar with using technology (i.e. Email, Google, PowerSchool).
  • Possess the ability to effectively prioritize and multitask various needs throughout the school day.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a busy health office to provide health care, screenings, and medication administration.
  • Reviews all sports registrations for approval throughout the year.
  • Offers support as a team member to advise during PPT meetings, 504 meetings, and parents’ meetings.
  • Utilizes appropriate resources to plan and provide nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible, and that reflect current nursing practice.
  • Works in collaboration with the administration and Quinnipiack Valley Health District during outbreaks of illness to implement appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Establishes school health plans with specific goals and interventions that are unique to students’ needs, and are compatible with educational goals.
  • Maintains well organized student health records and ensures that physicals, immunizations and screenings are completed and documented in accordance with CT DPH and SDE health regulations.
  • Applies relevant theories as the basis for nursing interventions through the evaluation process, resource materials and continuing professional development.
  • Integrates evidence and research findings into everyday practice.
  • Actively participates as a member of the school’s interdisciplinary collaborative team and works closely with parents for medical concerns.
  • Assists students, families and staff to achieve optimum levels of wellness through health education.
  • Identifies potential elements of care and documentation that can be safely delegated to other appropriate personnel, such as the health office secretary, in accordance with applicable policies and/or legal parameters.
