About The Position

The School Nurse will strengthen and facilitate the educational process by promoting and maintaining the health and wellness of all students using a holistic approach. This role is crucial in keeping students healthy, safe, and ready to learn, often serving as the primary healthcare provider within the school setting. The nurse will manage student health, administer medications, track immunizations, conduct screenings, and collaborate with various school departments and external agencies to support student well-being. Additionally, the nurse will train staff in CPR, first aid, and AED use, respond to emergencies, and facilitate health education for students and staff.

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio license or Compact State license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field
  • Valid adult and child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • One (1) year of experience in school nursing or other related pediatric nursing field
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical, mathematical, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dealing with rapidly changing priorities and demands
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and enforce pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures for the functional area of assignment
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel
  • Ability to deliver high-quality customer service in a timely and professional manner
  • Ability to administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed for illness, injury, or life-threatening emergencies
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.

Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and sudden illnesses
  • Manage chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, allergies, and seizures
  • Administer medications according to the doctor's orders and school policy
  • Monitor student health and follow up on ongoing issues
  • Maintain accurate student health records
  • Partner with ECLC Director to ensure preschool health files and documentation meet licensing requirements
  • Track immunizations and ensure compliance with state requirements
  • Document visits, treatments, and incidents
  • Conduct vision and hearing screenings required by the state and preschool licensing
  • Identify potential health concerns and notify parents/guardians
  • Promote healthy habits and disease prevention
  • Support programs related to mental health, bullying, or substance abuse
  • Work with teachers, administrators, and counselors to support student well-being
  • Coordinate with doctors or public health agencies when needed
  • Develop and implement emergency action plans (EAPs) and individualized health plans (IHPs)
  • Collaboration with CHCA's Student Support Department
  • Train staff in hands-only CPR, first aid, and use of AEDs (Project Adam)
  • Respond to school-wide health emergencies
  • Recognize signs of anxiety, depression, or abuse
  • Monitor and manage communicable diseases
  • Provide training, supervision, and evaluation of school-based personnel who carry out procedures and treatments needed for students on or off campus
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of CHCA health procedures, standing orders, policies, goals, and objectives, including emergency procedures, crisis management, and disaster planning
  • Facilitate health education for students and staff through direct health counseling, selective educational presentations, and as a health resource person
  • Administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed for illness, injury, or life-threatening emergencies
  • Cross-train to all CHCA campuses in case of a specific nursing need
  • Uphold the ethical codes and standards of both nursing and education professions
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in conferences and other training courses to enhance job performance
  • Seek out professional development opportunities and maintain professional licensure and certifications
  • Promote CHCA's interest in increasing student achievement by always working with the educational interests of students in mind
  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge of the spiritual beliefs and practices of the faith community, organization, and communities that are served
  • Maintain positive communication with colleagues, community members, parents, and students to promote an increase in community engagement in education
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement by valuing learning, exhibiting professionalism, and making positive contributions to workplace morale
