The School Nurse administers and coordinates the health services program. This role involves conducting school health services, vision, hearing, and other required screenings. The nurse dispenses prescribed medication with proper authorization, monitors immunization requirements, and provides emergency care for illnesses or accidents. They maintain up-to-date health records for all students, report on school medical matters to various stakeholders, and prepare reports for the Superintendent and State Board of Health. Additionally, the School Nurse participates in developing and implementing a total school health program, assists teachers in adapting school programs for individual student needs, and serves as a liaison between the school and community health agencies. The position also involves counseling students and parents, participating in staff development, attending professional conferences, and ensuring compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics. Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job. While not supervising district personnel, the role does involve the supervision of students.
