About The Position

The School Nurse contributes directly to the health education of both students and staff through activities that focus on disease prevention, health promotion, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The role establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to students. The nurse provides emergency first aid and direct care for students with injuries and illnesses, administers medicines when necessary under physician or parent instruction with signed authorizations, and assures quality of care by adhering to local County Health Association regulations and state board of nursing standards. The position maintains a safe and clean working environment, protects students and staff by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and Parish Nurse Guidelines. The School Nurse documents student care services by maintaining student health records, serves as the responsible party ensuring documentation of all students’ immunizations, and maintains student/parent confidence by keeping information confidential. The role also maintains nursing supplies inventory, stays current with professional knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications, maintains cooperative relationships among health care teams by communicating information and responding to requests, and contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. The School Nurse acts as a professional liaison between students, staff, family, physician, and community agencies. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Florida State LPN or RN Nursing license required.
  • Certified in CPR, AED and Epi-Pen Training.
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience working with children preferably in a school setting.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communications skills both written and oral.
  • Proficiency in computer activities.
  • Must pass a Level 2 background check with satisfactory results.
  • State of Florida law requires fingerprinting and clearance through the Florida DOE Background Screening Clearinghouse for all school-based positions.

  • Documents about student care services by maintaining student health records.
  • Serves as the responsible party ensuring documentation of all students’ immunizations.
  • Maintains student/parent confidence by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipates needed supplies; plans and expedites orders for supplies, including verifying receipt of supplies; uses equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviews professional publications; establishes personal networks; participates in professional societies.
  • Maintains cooperative relationships among health care teams by communicating information; responds to requests; builds rapport; cooperates in problem-solving.
