About The Position

The Bristol Warren Regional School Department is seeking a School Nurse/Teacher. The daily substitute rate is now $250.00 per day. The job goal is to provide school health services to strengthen the educational process of children by assisting them to improve or adapt to their health status and to create a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.

Requirements

• Bachelors Degree from an accredited or approved institution of higher education
• Licensed as a professional registered nurse in Rhode Island
• Three years of documented experience in providing services as a professional nurse

Nice To Haves

• Well versed in the implementation of health care services screening procedures, and record keeping
• Skilled in interpersonal communication
• School-based experience preferred
• Current-Valid RI Certification as a School/Nurse Teacher; or in the process of receiving certification (for Long Term Sub assignments)

Responsibilities

• Plans, prepares and coordinates health care management of all students including new registrants, building transfers, and students with special health needs.
• Plans for health and emergency care in the district schools, annually updates the district’s process and procedures documented in the Health Services Manual.
• Demonstrates a distinct clinical knowledge base for decision-making in nursing practice.
• Plans preventative courses of action to eliminate and/or minimize health problems that interfere with learning.
• Responsible for determining and documenting that students meet state and local health requirements for physical examinations and immunizations.
• Establishes a documentation system for all aspects of health care service and maintains confidentiality.
• Trains and supervises paraprofessionals implementing health related services, procedures, etc. for students.
• Collects and interprets medical findings concerning students in order to evaluate needs and make recommendations.
• Conducts all state and locally mandated health screenings.
• Plans and conducts health assessments as requested by school staff and parents, including students referred for special education, 504 plans, or chronic health related services, and reviews and updates as needed.
• Assesses student health status, makes nursing diagnoses, plans appropriate interventions, and evaluates results.
• Provides health services that promote, improve and maintain the well being of all students.
• Provides emergency medical and crisis intervention services to students and staff.
• Provides medical services/procedures to students as specified in their individual education plans.
• Provides follow up recommendations of health assessments to school staff and parents.
• Communicates medical and health findings to student, parent and school personnel.
• Acts as a liaison to school staff, parents, community agencies, and medical providers.
• Makes referrals to state, local and private agencies.
• Serves as a member of school-based teams (MDT, IEP, CAP/CAST, RISK, Attendance, 504, etc.) and acts as a consultant for specialized health care needs.
• Counsels students, parents, and school personnel regarding health problems.
• Provides training to faculty and school staff relative to health issues.
• Collects and shares information on health related issues with school staff.
• Provides ongoing health education to students and staff.
• Demonstrates professional growth and development.
• Demonstrates professional ethical conduct.
• Follows School District Policies, Procedures & Curricula.
