School Military and Family Life Counselor - JBLM
About The Position
Leidos is seeking licensed behavioral health professionals to join their Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) Child and Youth Behavioral team to support JBLM near Tacoma, WA. This is a 9-month position that aligns with the school calendar, supporting River Ridge HS and Timberline HS. The role involves supporting U.S. military service members and their families through life adjustments by providing non-medical counseling, consultation, and outreach to faculty, staff, parents, children, and youth. This counseling is preventive, aiming to address issues before they escalate. The position offers a unique opportunity to support military children who face specific emotional and environmental challenges due to the stresses of military life.
Requirements
- A master’s degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
- Hold a valid independent license in the mental health field from any US state or territory (LCSW, MHC, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist).
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to pass a basic background check for employment, a Child National Agency Check, and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, commonly called a Public Trust clearance.
Responsibilities
- Work at school(s) populated by military youth and teens.
- Visually observe, participate, and engage in activities with youth and/or teens.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and support to staff and parents.
- Model behavior management techniques for staff and parents.
- Offer presentations on social skills development and social emotional learning.
- Promote creativity and positivity through approved materials.
- Build rapport with parents and families by attending installation and community events.
- Assist with transition adjustments, such as new schools and new homes.
- Participate in regular in-service training or other contract activities as assigned.
- Communicate information regarding trends and issues at the assigned installation to Team Leads.
- Respond to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation.
- Traverse long distances to both indoor and outdoor locations, maneuvering through rugged, outdoor, or uneven locations and working in outdoor weather.
- Travel to locations outside of a military base in a variety of physical environments.
