About The Position

The employee in this position will assist the school nurse with student health needs as delegated by the lead nurse. This role involves managing student medical and health records, administering medication, providing basic first aid, and assisting with health screening programs. The technician works under the direction of the Lead Nurse and collaborates with the assigned School Nurse in a team approach.

Requirements

  • Background in a health related field required
  • CPR Certification required
  • Experienced in First Aid Training/AED use required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Prepare, read, and comprehend a variety of job-related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation, and correspondence.

  • At least two years of clinical mental health experience.

Responsibilities

  • Document all student visits and keep a log to share with the nurse.
  • Administer first aid within the scope of training.
  • Receive and verify medication administration request forms, ensuring all necessary information and signatures are present.
  • Prepare daily medication administration sheets and logs.
  • Manage medication for students with unique needs, including those for asthma, EpiPens, and diabetic supplies, ensuring proper documentation and storage.
  • Administer medication following the six 'Rights' (student, medication, dose, route, documentation, time).
  • Complete medication incident/error records if any errors occur.
  • Check new enrollments for up-to-date immunizations and North Carolina Health Assessments.
  • Maintain a spreadsheet of new enrollments to track immunization compliance.
  • Fax unique mealtime needs (diet orders) to the Child Nutrition office and provide copies to the cafeteria manager and student's teacher.
  • Input health concerns noted on the Health Assessment form into Powerschool/Infinite Campus.
  • Update PowerSchool 'Medical Alert' as needed.
  • Enter vision screening results under the 'Screenings Tab'.
  • Provide parents with appropriate healthcare paperwork for developing accurate health plans.
  • Initiate, maintain, and update student medical and health records and databases.
  • Understand the role does not involve medical assessment interpretation or decision-making.
  • Accept delegation of routine student health care needs from the assigned school nurse, including medication administration.
  • Understand and maintain student and staff confidentiality.
  • Maintain and update immunization records and assist in securing noted immunization deficiencies.
  • Provide basic first aid and emergency care to ill or injured students.
  • Assist and participate in health screening programs.
  • Maintain a student sign-in log for all visits.
  • Perform and document accurate vital signs on students.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and healthful school environment.
  • Work with an assigned School Nurse in a team approach.
  • Respond constructively to supervision.
  • Relate positively to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Attend staff meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
