School Health Public Health Nurse II
About The Position
The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is seeking a full-time School Health Public Health Nurse II to join their team. This progressive public health leader serves a diverse population and is committed to promoting population health, protecting public health and the environment, and ensuring equitable access to health services. The School Health Program works collaboratively with community partners to address public health priorities, focusing on health education, promotion, and disease prevention. The role involves providing community services through a multi-disciplinary approach in school settings, including outreach, home/school visits, community assessment, health promotion, education, case finding, care coordination, and disease prevention for students, families, and communities. The position requires strong computer skills and participation in the training, supervision, and evaluation of unlicensed assistive personnel. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered for fully qualified new county employees.
Requirements
- Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing; plus, one-year post-licensure nursing experience.
- Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Valid driver's license.
- CPR certification (required within 30 days).
- AED certification (required within 30 days).
- Must complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, driving record check, and sanction screenings.
- Must have strong working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications).
- Must have high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population.
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
Nice To Haves
- Experience providing health services to school aged children in ethnically diverse populations.
- Experience managing complex medical conditions in pediatrics.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications.
- At least one year of supervisory experience or has demonstrated work experience monitoring and directing the work of others.
Responsibilities
- Provides a variety of community services using a multi-disciplinary approach serving diverse populations in the school community.
- Services and interventions include outreach which include home/school visits, community assessment, health promotion, education, case finding, care coordination and disease prevention for students, families and communities.
- Must participate in the training, supervision and evaluation of unlicensed assistive personnel.
- Experience conducting epidemiological investigations of communicable disease cases and outbreaks.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners.
- Work independently and on interdisciplinary teams.
