To help all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development. This role may involve coordinating and directing the activities of counselor aides and clerical assistants. The school counselor establishes the school-counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program, involving other school staff in decision-making. They provide individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students. Additionally, the counselor consults with students, parents, teachers, and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting student needs. They coordinate all counseling services for students and assist with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school, also aiding teachers with the Guidance Curriculum. The school counselor accurately interprets test results and other student data, and assists teachers with the educational placement of students using appropriate educational assessment strategies. The counselor adheres to ethical standards, abides by laws and policies, and participates in professional development to upgrade knowledge and skills. For counselors assigned to the Virtual Learning Program, all online courses are taught using the Craven County Schools Learning Management System, and counselors are expected to attend professional development to become proficient in its use.
