About The Position

Global Village Academy is an innovative charter school where students learn core academic content through language immersion. Language offerings vary by campus: our North - Thornton campus offers Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian, while our Aurora and Douglas County campuses offer Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and French. GVA is truly a "global village." Our immersion teachers come from all over the world, each bringing their unique culture and language into the classroom. United by a common core, students are challenged to become world class thinkers, capable of engaging ideas using multiple languages and cross-cultural perspectives, through an internationally benchmarked curriculum spanning each language village. The School Counselor supports students' academic, social, emotional, and career development by providing guidance and counseling services. Through collaboration with students, families, educators, and community resources, the School Counselor promotes a positive school environment that fosters student growth and success.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited university.
  • Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Initial or Professional Special Services License with an endorsement in School Counseling.
  • One year of experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of counseling techniques and evidence-based interventions.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and providing culturally responsive counseling.
  • Knowledge of the IEP and 504 Plan processes.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient in data analysis and using data to inform decisions.
  • Familiarity with career and college readiness programs.
  • Communication Skills: Engage effectively with students, families, and school staff.
  • Empathy and Active Listening: Provide compassionate and supportive counseling.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work with stakeholders to support student success.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Address a variety of student needs in a dynamic school environment.
  • Regular attendance is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' emotional and social development.
  • Develop and implement school-wide programs to address academic achievement, career planning, and personal/social development.
  • Conduct assessments to identify student needs and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Assist students in setting academic and career goals through regular check-ins and planning sessions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to address academic and behavioral concerns.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.
  • Develop and implement behavior management plans in collaboration with school staff.
  • Lead student support team meetings and contribute to Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RtI) initiatives.
  • Offer referrals to community resources and maintain partnerships with outside agencies.
  • Support student transitions between school levels and assist with college and career planning.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive school environment by implementing social-emotional learning programs.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions for students, staff, and parents on topics such as mental health awareness, conflict resolution, and study skills.
  • Act as a liaison between the school, families, and community organizations.
