The School Counselor will promote the school system's counseling program by possessing the knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes necessary to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, developmental, results-based school counseling program. This role provides system support through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs. The counselor will provide direct and indirect services with and for students, including responsive services through individual and small-group counseling, consultation, and referral skills. They will implement the school counseling curriculum through effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured group sessions. For students in grades 6-12, the counselor will provide information for postsecondary plans, financial aid, and scholarship information, plan and coordinate the advisement program, evaluate transcripts and review records for course selections and placement, and conduct exit interviews for withdrawing students. The counselor will also follow the system’s procedures in referring students to a local school support team and perform other assigned duties.
