About The Position

The School Counselor at IDEA Public Schools leads the campus family engagement vision, social emotional learning program, and coordination of mental health and counseling supports for all scholars. This role is crucial in ensuring authentic relationships between staff, students, and families, and involves significant data maintenance and analysis to drive campus strategies. The School Counselor is responsible for ensuring all staff understand their roles in supporting students and families, leading to students having the academic and social skills needed for college. Ultimately, this role contributes to creating a safe and supportive learning environment where students can succeed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field required
  • Valid TX School Counselor certification or counseling /social work licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LCSW-S, LPC-A, LPC, LMFT-A, LMFT) required
  • Belief in and alignment with IDEA’s mission and values is non-negotiable
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment

Responsibilities

  • Achieves/Owns Campus Goal of Overall Student Persistence by directing and managing all stakeholders in their roles and responsibilities in family engagement and student persistence.
  • Leads the planning and execution of student and family engagement events aligned to the school’s culture, community, and family needs.
  • Leads Professional Development for the entire campus to clarify staff roles in family engagement.
  • Manages campus student persistence data, ensuring accuracy and reporting through partnership with the PEIMS team.
  • Partners with grade level teams to identify and coordinate interventions for at-risk students.
  • Leads parent conversations and problem-solves to meet student and family needs in collaboration with the campus lead team.
  • Leads family communications platforms (Remind, Smore, Facebook) and administers parent surveys to gather feedback and create strategic plans.
  • Administers student surveys to gather feedback on the IDEA experience.
  • Partners with Enrollment Specialist and APO to ensure high-quality onboarding for new students and families.
  • Directs and manages campus team members in their role in family engagement to retain new students.
  • Leads the planning and execution of specific new parent events to welcome and integrate new families.
  • Owns campus new student persistence, ensuring data accuracy and reporting through partnership with the SIS/Registrar.
  • Ensures new families and students build community and develop a sense of belonging within the first 10 days.
  • Documents at least ten hours of direct student services weekly and all interventions/crises in the district-wide documentation system.
  • Collaborates with community agencies to coordinate services within the school system.
  • Utilizes Student & Family Survey data to assess campus climate and culture.
  • Serves as a member of the crisis response team to ensure student or family social/emotional needs are met.
  • Connects students and families to community resources.
  • Acts as a liaison between community support personnel and the campus.
  • Ensures 90% of assigned teachers use the Move This World social emotional learning curriculum with fidelity.
  • Leads teacher and campus training on the Move This World curriculum.
  • Identifies and utilizes best practice strategies to integrate a Mental Health curriculum.
  • Conducts regular observations of Move This World blocks and provides feedback to teachers.
  • Tracks curriculum progress and sends weekly updates.
  • Conducts BOY and EOY assessments on Mental Health competencies, school climate, safety, and sense of belonging, and creates action steps.
  • Ensures 80% of Risk & Threat Assessments have a Safety Plan and/or Re-entry Meetings documented.
  • Ensures all responses to crises are documented within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Manages accurate data tracking of crises on campus across all systems.
  • Presents data to the monthly CCT meeting with updates and suggested revisions.
  • Collaborates with CCT Members to ensure Risk & Threat Assessment Checklist fidelity.
  • Ensures 100% of CCT Members are trained in Risk & Threat Assessment Protocols.
  • Creates Campus Crisis Binders and conducts walkthroughs with CCT members.
