Requirements

  • Current Arizona State Guidance Counselor certification.
  • Degree required in relevant field of study.
  • Prior relevant work experience.
  • Ability to obtain a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Have knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies.
  • Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
  • Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position is held in the highest of confidentiality.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies; including mandatory reporting procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the district adopted Comprehensive Competency Based Guidance Curriculum (CCBG).
  • Provide classroom and small group developmental activities (e.g., self-esteem, problem-solving, decision making).
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Child Study Team and the Multi Disciplinary Conference Team (MDC).
  • Facilitate the introduction of students to the school community.
  • Help students evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Provide counseling for children on an individual basis to remediate behavioral, academic, and personal student concerns.
  • Help to maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.
  • Promote parents' understanding of academic progress, behavior, growth, and development issues.
  • Help resolve student-teacher conflicts.
  • Provide in-service training as needed.
  • Consult about class interaction, student needs, and staff relationships.
  • Aid in the interpretation of test results to students, parents and teachers.
  • Take an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
  • Work closely with the school nurse in reporting cases of suspected child abuse.
  • Facilitate special interest programs as needed, such as parenting groups and/or support groups.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of Exceptional Student Services.
