About The Position

The Arizona Department of Education is seeking a School Counseling Specialist to support the Arizona School Counselor Director. This role will provide professional development, technical assistance, and overall support to K-12 counselors, college and career advisors, and related educators who are providing career pathway planning. Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel is required. The position operates within a hybrid work environment, allowing for up to two days of remote work, contingent upon business needs. Candidates must be willing to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs dictate.

Requirements

  • Experience serving as a school counselor or similar position related to career pathway planning.
  • A bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, CTE, special education, or a related field, or equivalent experience to substitute for the degree.
  • Knowledge in Career and Technical Education.
  • Knowledge in the Role and responsibilities of K-12 School Counselors.
  • Demonstrate expertise in Education and Career Action Plans (ECAP) requirements and career pathway planning.
  • Skills in presenting to large and small groups of stakeholders both online and in-person.
  • Facilitation skills to deliver training, workshop sessions, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Ability to critically think and problem-solve.
  • Intermediate skill in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to design needed materials, resources, and other needed items.
  • Ability to interpret federal and state guidelines and rules as appropriate.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups of educators to accomplish identified tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to provide professional development, collaboration, training, and overall support to K-12 counselors and educators.
  • Support school counselors, middle school, and high school staff with training and technical assistance with Education and Career Action Plans.
  • Collaborate with CTE to provide resources for career exploration for all grade levels and promote awareness of and availability of CTE programs as a viable option for student academic and career success.
  • Create and update guidance documents to advocate for quality school counseling services for all students.
  • Assist with the management and support of users and content within the ADE Application for Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP).
