About The Position

High Point Christian School (HPCS) is seeking a school chef for the '26-27 school year. HPCS takes pride in providing high-quality, balanced, and fresh meals at a reasonable price for students and staff. The selected candidate will oversee the school’s lunch program, including menu development, planning, purchasing, food preparation, and kitchen clean-up. This position is also responsible for ensuring the kitchen operates in a cost-effective, efficient, and sanitary manner. The chef will collaborate closely with the lunchroom coordinator to ensure the food program meets the school’s operational needs, remains within budget, and provides meals that are prepared and served efficiently. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive attitude, possess experience managing kitchen operations, and enjoy working in a school environment alongside students, staff, and volunteers. High Point Christian School was founded in 1975 as a ministry of what is now High Point Church, a non-denominational evangelical fellowship serving the greater Madison area. HPCS provides a safe, caring, and Christ-centered educational environment for students in grades PK–8th grade. The school is affiliated with the Impact Christian Schools network. Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in the restaurant, catering, cafeteria, or related food service industry
  • Strong communication skills, cooperative attitude, and the ability to work independently while demonstrating initiative and accountability
  • Experience monitoring food safety procedures and maintaining cleanliness standards
  • Experience working with and negotiating with food suppliers
  • Willingness to support the mission and values of a Christian school and conduct oneself professionally
  • Ability to pass a background check and work in an environment with elementary and middle school students

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing or overseeing a commercial kitchen
  • Experience purchasing food and managing food costs
  • Experience developing and managing food programs and menus for school-aged children

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a school food program, recipes, and menus serving approximately 80–150 elementary and middle school students daily
  • Create menus that balance student preferences with sound nutrition and healthy meal options
  • Prepare appetizing, varied, and nutritious lunches in a timely manner
  • Order food and supplies from wholesalers while monitoring inventory and controlling costs
  • Monitor and enforce food quality, safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards
  • Wash and properly store dishes, cookware, and kitchen equipment after each service
  • Perform daily cleaning of sinks, stove, oven, work surfaces, and countertops
  • Complete occasional deep cleaning and maintenance of ovens, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, and storage areas
  • Maintain positive working relationships and open communication with the lunchroom coordinator, staff, and volunteers
