About The Position

Operate a school bus which transports pupils and other authorized personnel to and from schools; does related work as required or assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Submit to and pass the pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test.
  • Fingerprints must clear Public Safety and FBI checks.
  • Graduated from high school or general education degree.
  • Two years of related experience and/or training.
  • Communicate (speak, read, and write) effectively in the English language.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write reports and correspondence.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from the supervisor, staff, and public.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.
  • Certified in First Aid.
  • Lift 70 pounds.
  • Sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear.
  • Climb or balance.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have driving skills and the ability to drive at night.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work indoors and outdoors.
  • Work in noisy, overcrowded environments.
  • Work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
  • Operate power tools.

  • Inupiaq speaking and cultural experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obey all traffic laws and observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and report problems to the proper authority.
  • Keep the assigned bus clean.
  • Follow assigned route and schedule.
  • Check the bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Transport and discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • Complete and attend all training sessions as required.
  • Adhere to all District rules and regulations.
