About The Position

The Burlington School District is seeking a School Bus Driver to safely transport students to and from their residences to schools in a timely and proficient manner. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and experienced in driving large vehicles and possess the interpersonal skills to handle situations that may arise with students on board. The driver must adhere to all local driving ordinances and maintain the cleanliness of the bus for student safety and comfort.

Requirements

A High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must hold a Vermont Driver’s License in the appropriate class.
Previous experience in transportation/driving.
Experience working in a school environment/with children.
Must possess a Class B CDL.

Responsibilities

Observe all safety regulations and procedures, and notify management of any concerns.
Obey all traffic laws.
Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and report undisciplined students to the proper authority.
Keep the assigned bus clean.
Check the bus before each operation for mechanical failure or lateness and notify the proper authority if issues are found.
Discharge students only at authorized stops.
Exercise responsible leadership on out-of-district trips.
Transport only authorized students.
Report all accidents and complete required reports.
Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
Use discretion in discussing school affairs to maintain positive school-community relations.
Comply with Board and administrative policies, regulations, and procedures, and reinforce students' adherence to them.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Attend scheduled department meetings.
Maintain attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Property Services or designee.
