About The Position

The primary responsibility of this role is to safely transport passengers in multiple types of vehicles, including those with manual and automatic transmissions. The driver will be responsible for operating a transportation vehicle safely, reading and understanding route sheets and maps, and completing pre-trip and post-trip inspections. This role also involves assisting students with loading and unloading, including wheelchair lifts, and managing student behavior. The driver will cooperate and communicate with school personnel, parents, and students, attend safety and training meetings, and conduct emergency evacuations. Responsibilities also include cleaning the interior and exterior of the bus, and other specialized functions as required by contract. The ability to learn and follow a route sheet or electronic routing device is essential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Operator's license with required endorsements & other state or local permits as required.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work early morning hours.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must maintain a professional and respectful attitude toward fellow employees and customers.
  • Dress in a professional and appropriate manner for a business environment.
  • Perform all job functions in the safest manner adhering to OSHA guidelines & other applicable Federal & State laws.
  • Execute all job duties while following company policy and procedure.
  • Ability to use or learn to use internet, additional programs as required and office equipment, including fax and phones or other electronic devices.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport passengers in multiple types of vehicles, including those with manual and automatic transmissions.
  • Drive a regular route, or serve as a spare or charter driver.
  • Safely operate a transportation vehicle.
  • Read and understand street signs, route sheets, and maps.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, including child checks.
  • Assist students in the loading and unloading process, including wheelchair lift.
  • Cooperate and communicate with school personnel, parents, and students.
  • Attend all safety and training meetings.
  • Conduct emergency evacuation from the bus, including exiting from the emergency door.
  • Clean the insides of the bus, including sweeping, dusting, and cleaning windows.
  • Clean outside windows of the bus.
  • Perform other specialized functions as required by contract.
  • Manage student behavior.
  • Learn and follow a route sheet/electronic routing device.
