The primary responsibility of this role is to safely transport passengers in multiple types of vehicles, including those with manual and automatic transmissions. This position may involve driving a regular route, serving as a spare driver, or charter driving. The role requires the safe operation of a transportation vehicle, the ability to read and understand street signs, route sheets, and maps, and to complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including child checks. The driver will assist students in the loading and unloading process, including the use of a wheelchair lift, and will cooperate and communicate with school personnel, parents, and students. Responsibilities also include attending safety and training meetings, conducting emergency evacuations, cleaning the interior and exterior of the bus, and managing students. The ability to learn and follow a route sheet or electronic routing device is essential.
