About The Position

Fortune School is a network of tuition-free public charter schools serving scholars in Sacramento. We are launching our first scholar transportation program. This is a part-time position driving assigned routes on schedule, safely, and professionally. The morning route is approximately 4 hours per day, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, for 188 days per year, following the academic calendar. Drivers are responsible for completing daily vehicle inspections, maintaining an accurate rider roster, managing scholar conduct, keeping the vehicle clean and fueled, and communicating professionally with families. Drivers may apply for one route or both. A driver holding both the morning and afternoon routes works 8 hours per day and is a benefited employee, eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Requirements

  • Valid California Class A or B driver's license with passenger (P) endorsement
  • School bus (S) endorsement
  • Valid California School Bus Driver Certificate (DL 45) issued by the California Highway Patrol
  • Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT physical)
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or a CHP waiver
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of driving experience
  • Clean DMV driving record and enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program
  • DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance via LiveScan
  • Tuberculosis screening clearance
  • Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing, pre-employment and ongoing random
  • Mandated Reporter training
  • Ten hours of in-service training annually
  • Active certification (cannot hire candidates who are not yet certified)

Responsibilities

  • Drive assigned routes on schedule, safely, and professionally
  • Complete daily vehicle inspections and maintain the inspection log
  • Maintain an accurate rider roster and account for every scholar boarding and exiting
  • Manage scholar conduct on board and report concerns promptly
  • Keep the vehicle clean and fueled, and report maintenance needs
  • Communicate professionally with families at stops
  • Cover the opposite route when needed, by mutual arrangement
  • Complete the daily pre-trip inspection and run morning routes, bringing scholars to a Fortune School campus in a certified 15-passenger school bus.
