About The Position

Voyago is currently recruiting to fill an existing vacancy for a School Bus Dispatcher based in Carp, Ontario. Reporting to the General Manager, the Schools Dispatcher is responsible for the dispatch of drivers and providing accurate direction. The role also includes providing a high degree of customer service in a fast-paced work environment. This full time role runs year round, and it is not defined by the school calendar. Summer or school holiday hours may vary and may NOT be split shift as a result.

Requirements

  • Dispatch experience within the transportation or service industry or related education.
  • Able to utilize a radio to listen to, respond to and communicate effectively with all en route drivers.
  • Excellent time and stress management skills.
  • A multi tasker who can prioritize several urgent and important tasks.
  • Takes initiative to solve problems and search out the data needed to do so.
  • Able to accurately follow a flowchart of procedures to meet corporate and legal obligations.
  • Strong proven customer service experience.
  • Computer literate and have software experience in MS Office (MS Word and Excel).
  • Clear understanding of the transportation industry.
  • Possess a valid Ontario G license.
  • Able to Provide a Clean drivers abstract.
  • Able to Provide a Clean criminal record search.
  • Good Geographic knowledge of the City of Ottawa and surrounding areas.
  • Able to communicate effectively with clear, concise and excellent English.
  • Reliable means of transportation to work in all weather (due to no public transportation to this area).
  • Ability to be flexible with work hours in response to changing company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure dispatch and driver operations are in accordance with established standards.
  • Creatively arrange routes and driver resources to ensure contracted routes are covered for driver illness and holidays.
  • Customer Service Calls, Recurring rides & Special event co-ordination.
  • Incident reporting.
  • Dispatch drivers to various routes on a timely basis.
  • Alert drivers to road closures and other delays.
  • Identify all runs and drivers active on routes are on time to ensure no students are left behind.
  • Manage and pull a variety of reports as per the Dispatch Supervisor’s directive.
  • Manage and assist with scheduling vehicle maintenance as required.
  • Answer phones, fax, and email correspondence in a professional and courteous manner.
