About The Position

OhioGuidestone is seeking an experienced therapist for Stepstone Academy, a K-8th grade campus in the Cleveland Central Neighborhood. This role emphasizes supporting students with behavioral interventions and addressing acute concerns of emotional and academic distress within the school environment. Stepstone Academy operates with a "whole child", "whole family", "whole community" mindset, aiming to change the narrative around urban education and empower students with a sense of worth, personal responsibility, and a "no excuse - every child can succeed" attitude. The therapist will partner with school leadership and educators, respecting and valuing the diversity of students and their families, and demonstrating a strong commitment to the community.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences, learning and motivation, psychological research methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emotional and mental dysfunctions.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; ability to form relationships with diverse populations in diverse settings.
  • Excellent time management skills; able to prioritize and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple clients.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Electronic Health Records, Windows applications, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Authorization to work legally in the United States.
  • LSW, LPC, MFT license.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program required.

  • Familiarity with urban education and challenges faced by disadvantaged populations in academic settings.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling and psychotherapy to an assigned caseload, potentially including specialty therapeutic services (e.g., SUD, Maternal Depression).
  • Complete documented evidence-based Treatment Plans after the first client encounter and review progress toward goals in each subsequent progress note.
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients, families, and caregivers.
  • Respond to mental health emergencies in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Identify appropriate interventions for clients in crisis, collaborate with staff to access resources, and engage community partners.
  • Provide Community Psychiatric Supports and Treatment (CPST), SUD Targeted Case Management, and Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), or care coordination if needed.
  • Serve as a liaison to coordinate services, make referrals, and arrange for community resources, acting as a client advocate.
  • Actively participate in treatment conferences and meetings for clients.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with OhioGuidestone professionals and outside agency professionals assigned to a case.
  • Accurately and promptly document and maintain client and family interactions, including legal, financial, and clinical documentation.
  • Attend and participate in regular supervision.
  • Maintain all required licenses.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership and promote a team-based work environment.
