About The Position

This internship position is for a School Based Step Up Counselor. The role involves providing individual and family therapy, community support, and case management, potentially including therapy groups, with a trauma-based focus. The counselor will work with children and adolescents aged four (4) to twenty-one (21). Key responsibilities include assessing clients for risk of harm and making appropriate referrals to more intensive services, participating as a member of the behavioral health team in assigned CPS schools, tracking referrals, and consulting with school personnel, parents/guardians, and outside providers regarding students’ progress and needs. The internship offers learning opportunities to develop clinical assessment and intervention skills, gain real-world experience in case management and community support coordination, build professional consultation and collaboration skills within a school-based behavioral health team, and develop skills in ethical clinical documentation and adherence to mandated reporting laws and professional boundaries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and in MA or MSW graduate program
  • Ability to act safely and appropriately with clients in the community
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software
