School Age Teacher Assistant - Newport
About The Position
East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Teacher Assistant to support our Out-of-School Time (OST) programs. In this role, you'll help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where students can learn, grow, build relationships, and explore new opportunities beyond the traditional school day. Working alongside Site Coordinators, Lead Teachers, Program Facilitators, and community partners, you'll play a key role in supporting daily program operations while helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Teacher Assistant provides hands-on support for student supervision and program operations within NFCOZ and MCOZ programs. This position works collaboratively with program leadership and instructional staff to deliver high-quality programming while promoting the mission, values, and goals of EBCAP and its educational initiatives.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves
- Associate's Degree and/or Teacher Assistant Certification preferred.
- Experience working with school-age children in educational, childcare, recreation, youth development, or after-school settings is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Welcome students and help create a positive start to each program session.
- Assist with attendance tracking, snack distribution, and student dismissal procedures.
- Provide active supervision to ensure student safety and well-being throughout program activities.
- Support positive behavior management practices that align with school expectations and program guidelines.
- Work closely with Lead Teachers and program staff to support daily program goals and activities.
- Assist with preparing materials, organizing spaces, and facilitating student engagement.
- Help ensure activities run smoothly and provide support where needed.
- Adapt to changing program needs and contribute to a positive learning environment.
- Foster positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and families.
- Serve as a welcoming and professional representative of the program.
- Support an inclusive environment that values diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Participate in a minimum of 20 hours of professional development annually.
- Assist with internal and external program evaluation activities.
- Follow all agency, school, and state policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by program leadership.
