About The Position

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is seeking a passionate and professional School Age Coordinator to join their team at the Clearview Meadows YMCA Before & After School Program in Stayner. This full-time role is an opportunity to build healthy, strong, connected communities by providing nurturing environments for children. The coordinator will be responsible for the direct care and supervision of children, planning and implementing play-based learning, communicating with families and staff, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and quality program in accordance with YMCA curriculum, policies, and relevant legislation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act.
  • Availability requirements: Monday to Friday, 6:45-8:45 am & 2:30-6:00 pm plus admin hours to equal 30 hours per week.
  • Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills with families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions.
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) OR actively enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program OR Child & Youth Work/Care Diploma OR Rec & Leisure Diploma OR Bachelor of Education (must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers to be eligible).

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to children, including toileting/diaper changing, first aid, administering medication, and monitoring dietary, allergy, and medical conditions.
  • Actively engage with children, ensuring their supervision and safety in group settings of up to 15 children independently.
  • Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum.
  • Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff, and volunteers on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviors and additional needs.
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviors in line with the YMCA's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Adhere to work schedules to ensure program ratios are maintained and provide adequate notice to supervisors regarding unexpected scheduling changes.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules.
  • Maintain active and effective communication and information networks within the center, with the staff team, and with community agencies working with individual children and families.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of regulations and operating standards, ensuring the center operates in accordance with all directives, legislation, guidelines, and policies.
  • Mentor the center team, providing strong leadership to implement a safe, accessible, quality, child-centered, early childhood program.
  • Lead and work with center staff to maintain a well-organized, accessible, safe, and clean childcare facility, including classrooms, playground, washrooms, cubicles, and equipment.
  • Develop positive relationships and collaborative partnerships with families, understanding their specific needs and planning for successful outcomes.
  • Provide quality care to all children in a licensed childcare environment.
  • Comply with the Child Care Early Years Act, YMCA policies, and the YMCA Child Protection Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
