About The Position

We are seeking temporary summer staff to serve as School-Age Childcare Counselors supporting Adopt-A-Family’s Project GROW Summer Camp. As a temporary School-Age Childcare Counselor, you will play an integral role in daily program operations and youth enrichment activities. You will support lesson planning, classroom engagement, program coordination, and family support initiatives while gaining hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional development in youth programming.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old .
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively with children and families from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to anticipate program needs and offer solutions to support smooth operations.
  • Must be available to work Monday–Friday between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, totaling 40 hours per week during June 3 – July 24, 2026.
  • Ability to bend and lift overhead.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Developmental Psychology, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with School-Age Childcare Counselors (SACCs) to develop and maintain daily lesson plans aligned with QIS standards, including STEAM lessons, skill-building, self-esteem activities, cultural/art projects, and free learning opportunities.
  • Support the Project GROW team in planning and coordinating volunteers and AmeriCorps members.
  • Assist in planning daily activities and lessons for children during the summer program.
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and well-stocked classroom that meets Department of Health standards.
  • Assist SACCs in delivering the social-emotional learning curriculum and STEAM-based activities under the guidance of the Director of Youth Educational Programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to children during planned tasks and activities.
  • Provide continuous supervision to ensure child safety in the classroom, on the playground, and during field trips.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project GROW team to coordinate volunteers and AmeriCorps members.
  • Participate in community functions related to program activities.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Youth Educational Programs regarding parent concerns, case management needs, or emerging issues.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans to the Director of Youth Educational Programs.
  • Complete recommended trainings to enhance professional growth and skill development in youth programming.
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced educators and program leaders.
